I've always had an interest in undertaking my family tree. I started doing it in my late teens/early 20's. Lots of interesting stories along the way. Back then everything had to be done on paper. Time consuming and expensive. With the internet there is a lot of historical information available. Still time consuming but a lot less expensive.
So this weekend I've been doing some family research. I've managed to go back 11 generations on some branches of the family (that's around 1670 ish).
I down loaded a very handy (and free) tool from www.myheritage.com If you choose to publish your family tree (which can be protected so not everyone has access - much like Facebook), you can then compare your family tree with others. This is where you can find interconnections and fill in missing pieces of information.
I find this type of research extremely interesting. Probably because it is so personal.
